Lunch at the White House

Last month I turned 41 and was fortunate enough to be able to have lunch with Hunter at the White House. No, not that White House. The real White House.

At least as far as I am concerned.

In all seriousness, it was indeed my birthday, and I decided to surprise Hunter by picking him up at school and treating him (and myself) to lunch to celebrate my birthday.

The White House is probably one of my favorite places to eat breakfast in Buckhead, but I'd never had lunch there, so I figured Hunter and I could experience it together. It's also a stone's throw from his school, so it was a no-brainer. We drove over and parked around back, and Hunter wanted to sit on the wall for a picture.

We went inside, slid into a booth and were greeted by a waitress almost immediately. Hunter was ready to place his order, so her timing was perfect...

He ordered his favorite...pancakes and sausage. Since it was my birthday, I decided to splurge...and ordered a cheeseburger and fries. Hey...cut me some slack....turning 41 ain't easy, so I needed some grease to ease the pain...

We chatted it up for a few minutes, talking about school, Santa Claus, Freddie the Elf and his big sister, Sloane. Then I got the idea to put my camera on the counter and set the timer and get a picture of the two of us. It's rare that I'm ever in a picture, so I'm glad I thought to do it...

And then the food arrived. My burger and fries looked delicious...

And his pancakes did, too...

There's nothing like a birthday gut bomb. But it was well worth it. I scarfed it down in no time, but Hunter took his sweet time on his pancakes. I grabbed one more shot before we paid the bill and headed home.

I'm so glad I took the time out of my day to do it. There's nothing like a little one-on-one time, father and son. Especially in a dive restaurant with some good grub.

Thanks for the best birthday present ever, Hunter....time with you!!
